Kumarakom Backwater

Kumarakom has acclaimed its status as a must visit place in the tourism map. It is located 18 Km from Kottayam and 35 Km from Alleppey. It is same or similar to Alleppey, but the Vembanadu lake in Kumarakom is vast enough not to see one shore to another shore. Water way is there from Kumarakom to Alleppey. Kumarakom is a home for many migratory birds like Indian darter, white ibis, little cormorant, different species of herons, egrets and, several species of kingfishers. The best time to visit the bird sanctuary is June to August Vembanadu lake is the largest backwater in Kerala with marine and freshwater species like Pearl Spot (Karimeen), Prawns, Shrimps. Pathiramanal is the Island in Kumarakom, is accessible through the boats. The climate of Kumarakom is tropical, and in a year two rainy seasons are there. June to October Kumarakom gets good rain fall.. Fishing is done in Vembanadu lake by the local fisher men by using the smalls canoes. The pearl spot gets from here are believed to be the best and in big size and tasty. A lot of resorts and hotels are functioning here, including 5 star, 4 star, 3 star and home stays.
